An Ideal World, Preserved. is a fictional social media product campaign for Gentle Monster, with inspiration from Cities and Desire 4; Fedora, from Italo Calvino’s novel “The Invisible Cities”. Fedora is a city with a museum that exhibits crystal globes, each of which represent alternative ideal versions of Fedora. In the product campaign, Gentle Monster’s glasses, Kro 02, represent an ideal world – a desire – preserved inside a crystal globe.

Brief

The project originates from a module at Royal Danish Academy; to independently form a brief, and create a visual universe inspired by Italo Calvinos novel “The Invisible Cities”.

Design

Lisa Tobiasson constructed a design system that consists of objects, colors, composition, lighting and animation that together portray Kro 02 as desirable, precious and luxurious.

Color palette with purple = passion/desire, and silver = luxury.

Logo.

Kro 02, starts levitating to symbol an elevated status.

High contrast lighting to highlight the glasses as a precious object.

Composition that centers the object of desire, the glasses.

Iteration

Early R&D of crystal globe exhibition. Challenge: reflections and lighting. Solution: Light blocking (see final version).

Early R&D of lighting the case. However, in the final version, higher contrast lighting was chosen for a more luxurious look.

Early animatic. Challenge: Flat story arch due to an equal length of the shots. Solution: Reduced amount of shots, extended hero moments (see final version).
