Project Overview

Gen Z is trying to break their smartphone addiction by embracing an unexpected trend: the return of Nokia’s dumb pones, the sales of which increased by 33% on Tradera (Swedish eBay) in 2024, compared to 2023. To further to attract the younger target group, the Finnish brand needs to become more progressive in contrast to their current generic identity. The Nokia dumb phones have now got the chance to differentiate from the stressful smartphones by repositioning as the ultimate choice for a digitally peaceful life.

Brief

Rebrand an existing brand of choice and present it with a visual identity, campaign, service, merch and your own solution.

Visual Identity

The minimal and calming visual identity represents the brand’s value proposition of digital peacefulness. First and foremost, the hand drawn logo has pixelated elements reminiscent of simpler times, yet with rounded corners to express modernity. Moreover, the color palette consists of calming shades of blue, green and turquoise, and the typefaces are minimal sans serifs. The new brand consequently aims to inspire the younger generation of smartphone users to become more tech mindful.
The rounded pixel shape is a recurring element.

Early R&D. The purpose of the video is to portray the feeling of getting lost when doom scrolling. However, the turquoise color in this frame made the doom scroll effect feel less prominent.
